Discover Engineering Day February 27th 12:00-3:00pm
The Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE) Ozarks Chapter is excited to announce Discover Engineering Day this year at The Plaster Center for Free Enterprise and Business Development (406 N. Boonville, downtown Springfield). The Plaster Center is the newly renovated home of the Missouri State University (MSU) Cooperative Engineering Program. Discover Engineering Day is hosted by MSPE every February during engineers week as an educational outreach event for elementary school-aged children.
A recent paper in the Journal of Engineering Education found that only 6% of 1st through 5th graders understood engineers to be people who design. About half think we drive trains. To dispel this misunderstanding, Discover Engineering Day will feature interactive and informative activities geared toward elementary school-aged children that are conducted by members of the local engineering community. This will be the third time at this new location which allows the use of engineering labs, classrooms, and common space. Last year’s event was a major success with more than 200 visitors and 21 activities despite 2-3” of snow.
Please consider participating in this fun event. If you would like to help or have questions, please contact the event coordinator Matthew Pierson at (417) 837-2320 (office), (785) 393-2427 (mobile), or MatthewPierson@MissouriState.edu
