Programs at Webster County Ag Conference on Jan. 28 to Address Weeds, Toxic Fescue, Poultry and VFD

MARSHFIELD, Mo. — The public is invited to attend the 93rd Annual Webster County Diversified Agriculture Conference, scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 28 at Faith Southern Baptist Church, 1002 S. Marshall St. (Highway A), south of the Extension Center, in Marshfield.

"The educational nature of this conference is adapted each year to respond to the diverse issues of interest and concern to area farmers and ranchers, rural landowners, and many others," said Bob Schultheis, University of Missouri Extension natural resource engineering specialist. "This conference offers research-based solutions to address common production and profitability issues on Southwest Missouri area farms."

SPEAKERS AND TOPICS

Topics to be discussed include "Building Better Fescue to Feed," by Tim Schnakenberg, MU Extension agronomy specialist and "Poultry Biosecurity, Disease Control, and Housing," by Bill Pittenger, Missouri Department of Agriculture poultry health program manager and Bob Schultheis, MU Extension natural resource engineer.

"Veterinary Feed Directive: What To Do Now," will be presented by Dr. Craig Payne, MU Extension state veterinarian.

"Effective Weed Control with Sprayers and Weed Wipers," will be given by Bob Schultheis, MU Extension natural resource engineer. "Dealing with Johnsongrass, Sericea, and other Problem Weeds," will be presented by Sarah Kenyon, MU Extension agronomy specialist.

REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION

Lunch and some conference costs are covered by sponsors according to Schultheis. However, a $15 per person ($10 for students) registration fee is required to cover the remainder of unfunded conference costs.

So enough food can be prepared, participants should pre-register by Tuesday, Jan. 24, by contacting the Webster County Extension Center in Marshfield.

Attendees are also invited to bring non-perishable food items and a cash contribution to be donated to the Webster County Food Pantry.
